Saltville sits in a broad mountain valley straddling Smyth and Washington counties, named for the brine deposits that have drawn people to the area since long before European settlement. The Museum of the Middle Appalachians tells that long story, from the Pleistocene mastodons and ground sloths whose bones have been excavated out of the valley’s salt licks, through the Saltville salt works that supplied much of the Confederacy, to the small mill-town rhythm that still shapes daily life today. The Madam Russell Methodist Church and cabin, along with Salt Park, anchor a walkable historic core, and the surrounding ridgelines give the town an unmistakable sense of place.

From Saltville, the drive to our Lebanon offices runs roughly forty to forty-five minutes by way of Route 91 and Route 19, a route most local clients know well. We see clients from Saltville, Chilhowie, Glade Spring, and the small communities tucked between for outpatient counseling, EMDR therapy for adults, teens, and children ages 7 and older, and psychiatric medication management with our nurse practitioner. For adults whose depression has not responded to first-line medications, we also offer GeneSight® pharmacogenomic testing and Spravato® (esketamine) at our East Main Office.

We know an hour-plus round trip on top of work, school, and family is a real ask. Once a Saltville client is established with one of our therapists, secure telehealth visits are available anywhere in Virginia, so the routine of care can keep going even on the busy weeks when getting to Lebanon isn’t realistic.
